6 Household Tips That Makes Your Grandparents’ Life Easier

Just because your grandparents are retired doesn’t mean they don’t have a lot of work to do around the house! In fact, many retirees find themselves doing more chores than ever before. Lucky for them, there are some great household tools and items on the market that make life a little bit easier. Here’s our 6 favorite household upgrades that your grandparents will love!

1. A Safety Alarm. An alarm system can provide peace of mind for both your grandparents and you.

There are many different types of safety alarm systems on the market, so it’s important to find one that meets your grandparents’ specific needs. If they live alone, look for a system that includes an emergency call button. This can be worn as a pendant or bracelet, and will allow your grandparent to immediately contact you or 911.

For homes with multiple floors, a system that includes door and window sensors is a good option. This will alert your grandparents if someone tries to break in. Additionally, motion detectors can be placed throughout the home to provide an extra layer of security.

When choosing a safety alarm system, be sure to read the reviews and compare features. You should also make sure the system is compatible with your grandparents’ phone and home network.

Once you find the right alarm system for their home, you’ll be able to rest easy knowing that they are covered in an emergency and they’ll be able to enjoy the independence that comes with not being worried that they won’t have help if they fall or need assistance.

2. Grab Bars in the Bathroom. Installing grab bars in the bathroom and shower provides added safety for your grandparents.

If your grandparent is unsteady on their feet, grab bars can provide an extra level of safety in the bathroom. These bars can be installed near the toilet, shower, and sink. They provide a stable surface for seniors to grip onto when they are getting in and out of the bathtub or standing up from a seated position.

Some grab bars are made of plastic or metal, while others are padded for extra comfort. Ask your grandparents what their preference is and be sure to choose a grab bar that is easy to grip and can support your grandparent’s weight.

Installing grab bars is a relatively simple process, but it’s always best to hire a professional. This will ensure that the bars are properly installed and can support your grandparent’s weight.

3. A Good Vacuum Cleaner. A good vacuum cleaner is a must-have for any home with elderly residents. Not only does it make cleaning the floors a breeze, but it also helps to reduce dust and allergens in the air.

Vacuum cleaners with powerful suction are great for seniors who want to keep their homes clean with minimal effort. Look for a model with good reviews that is specifically designed for use on carpets and hard floors.

For those with arthritis or limited mobility, an upright vacuum cleaner with a detachable hose may be the best option. This type of vacuum is easy to maneuver and doesn’t require a lot of bending or stooping.

If your grandparent is looking for a more eco-friendly option, consider a robotic vacuum cleaner. These devices are becoming more popular and are great for seniors who want to save time and energy.

No matter what type of vacuum cleaner you choose, make sure it is lightweight and easy to use. Your grandparent should be able to operate it with minimal effort.

4. A Tablet or Laptop. Get your grandparent a tablet or laptop to keep them connected to family and friends. Especially during COVID times when traveling and visiting loved ones is restricted, tablets and laptops are great for seniors who want to stay connected with loved ones. There are many different models on the market, with several brands now made specifically for seniors!

If your grandparent is not very tech-savvy, look for a tablet or laptop with a user-friendly interface. Many of these devices come with preloaded apps and features that make it easy to stay connected.

For those who are more comfortable using technology, there are tablets and laptops with more advanced features. These devices allow users to surf the web, stream videos, and stay up-to-date on the latest news and social media.

No matter what type of tablet or laptop you choose, make sure it has a long-lasting battery and large display screen.

When shopping for a tablet or laptop, be sure to compare prices and read the reviews. You should also look for deals and discounts, especially if you are buying multiple devices.

5. A Grappler! As your grandparents get older, they may have a harder time bending down or stretching upward. A grappler is a great option for those who need a little extra help accessing hard-to-reach items in their homes.

Having a Grappler in the house can save your grandparents from experiencing additional knee or back pain from bending down and stretching. This handy tool can be used to clean up items in the house or to help with yard work.

Grapplers come in various sizes. From the Grappler that makes reaching objects from a wheelchair a breeze, to the extendable one that allows you to get trash or fruit out of tall trees, a Grappler will make household chores easier than ever before!

6. Easy-to-Prepare Meals. Stock up on easy-to-prepare meals and snacks that they can eat without too much effort.

As we age, our metabolism slows down and we don’t require as many calories. However, it’s still important for seniors to eat healthy foods that provide the nutrients they need.

One way to make sure your grandparent is getting enough to eat is to stock their pantry with easy-to-prepare meals and snacks. Look for foods that are high in protein and fiber, as these will help to keep your grandparent feeling full.

In addition to the many healthy and delicious options available at your local grocery store, there are also a number of companies who now deliver easy to make or reheat meals. Be sure to ask your grandparents what their preferences are to be sure that these are meals that they will want to eat!

In addition to stocking up on easy-to-prepare foods, you should also make sure your grandparent has plenty of water. Seniors are more susceptible to dehydration, so it’s important to keep them hydrated. Place a water filter near their favorite chair or bedside table so they can easily access it.

Making small changes to your grandparent’s diet can make a big difference in their overall health. By stocking their pantry with easy-to-prepare meals and snacks, you’ll help to ensure they’re getting the nutrients they need.

Now, time to enjoy!

By making these changes to your grandparents’ home, you are giving them the freedom and independence they deserve, and you can rest easy knowing they are as safe and comfortable as possible!

5 Ways To Declutter Your Home

Do you feel like your home is constantly cluttered? If yes, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Many people find themselves struggling with clutter in their home on a daily basis. Thankfully, there are steps you can take to declutter your home and keep it organized. Keep scrolling to learn our favorite five ways to declutter your home and keep it tidy!

1. Start with one small area at a time

It may seem like you have a lot of clutter to get rid of, but the key is to take it one step at a time! Start by picking out one small area in your home and tackle it first before moving on to another area.  This will help you feel more accomplished and less overwhelmed.

Make a list of the areas in your home that you would like to organize in order of priority and break it down into smaller tasks. This will help keep you motivated as you cross smaller items off your list until you complete your larger organizational goals!

2. Create three piles – keep, donate, or toss

Once you have chosen an area to start with, it’s time to create piles of belongings. Make a pile for things that you want to keep, one for items that can be donated, and another for anything that needs to be thrown away. This will help make sorting through your belongings easier than trying to figure out what to do with each item right away!

3. Be ruthless when sorting through your belongings

Be ruthless when sorting through your belongings, especially if you’re the type of person who has a hard time letting go of things.  Don’t be afraid to get rid of personal items, clothes that don’t fit anymore, etc. A good rule is: if you haven’t missed or used it in a year, it is no longer necessary for you to hold onto it.

It’s also important to give yourself a time limit for this task so you’re not spending all day sorting through old stuff! Remember: being ruthless does not mean throwing away everything – it just means thinking critically about what stays and what goes.

4. Get rid of anything you don’t use or need

This might seem like an obvious one, but it’s worth mentioning! If you haven’t used or worn something in months (or years), then chances are you probably won’t miss it when it’s gone.

It may be tempting to keep old clothes that don’t fit anymore “just in case,” but there is no point holding onto things that don’t serve a purpose anymore. The same can be said for old electronics like phones, computers, and televisions – if it doesn’t work or isn’t being used, there is no reason to keep it around.

For items that are in good condition, there are plenty of ways you can sell or donate. Your local Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Ebay are good places to start! The potential to earn a little cash while you declutter your home will keep you motivated to finish your projects!

5. Put things away in their designated place so they don’t end up back in clutter territory

This is arguably the most important tip of them all! If you want to keep your home organized and clutter-free, it’s crucial that you put things away in their designated place. Storage bins, shelves, and baskets with labels are useful for grouping items together so you can find your possessions when you need them! This will help prevent messes from happening in the first place and make cleaning up a whole lot easier!

It doesn’t have to end there!

You can also declutter your life by getting rid of less obvious things that don’t serve you anymore, such as old friendships or jobs that aren’t fulfilling. If a friend or coworker makes you feel like crap then it’s probably time to let them go!  This might seem harsh but sometimes tough reminders are needed to make big changes in your life.

Now that you have a plan of attack, it’s time to get started on this new lifestyle. Start with one small area at a time and work your way around the house until everything is tidy! Remember, be ruthless when sorting through your belongings so don’t feel bad about tossing anything you won’t use or need in the future. Put things away in their designated place so they don’t end up back in clutter territory. Need help getting to those hard-to-reach areas? Use our Grappler to help! Shop HERE. Happy Decluttering!

How Customers Are Using Grappler Products

At Grappler Inc., we believe a simple life can be a really good life. With all that goes on in the world today, if Grapplers makes life less complicated for our customers, then we have done our job. All of our products are made with our customers in mind. We aim to identify a problem and create a product that is the solution.

The Grappler pick-up tool was made for many reasons; two of them were to help make cleaning up faster and more efficient and to help people who have physical limitations to reach and grab objects in hard-to-reach places when they need them. It is a way to enable independence and reassurance for those who might be challenged by physical limitations.

We are known to have the strongest pick-up tool on the market, and all of our products are manufactured right here in the United States. We’ve sold thousands of reach extension and commercial grade litter pick-up tools since starting the business in 1992!

By listening to our customers’ concerns and focusing on providing superior quality products, we’ve managed to achieve our continued success. Our customers give us bragging rights when they tell us how they are using our Grappler pick-up tool to make their lives easier.

Useful for people who are disabled, wheelchair-bound, or recovering from surgery

Here at Grappler, Inc., we rest well at night knowing we have developed a product that actually helps people who are coping and/or adapting with disabilities or who are recovering from surgery.  One user took time to write:

“Just a note to let you know what a wonderful tool the Grappler is. I purchased a Grappler approximately a month ago in anticipation of my Spinal Surgery. I am not able to bend for the next 6 months. This tool absolutely has saved my life. It is not like any other grabber tool on the market. It picks up everything and is absolutely amazing. I plan on using it even after I am healed and able to bend. Thank you so much for a wonderful product.”

We are so happy to hear our customer’s reviews and that our product is coming to their aid in a time of need. Some of us can only imagine what it’s like to recover from spinal surgery and have to continue picking things up and grabbing items off the shelf. However, many of our customers know first-hand how helpful the Grappler tool can be after a significant surgery, especially if the patient has been advised not to bend over or down at all.

The goal of our Grappler tool is to alleviate the repetitiveness of bending over to pick up objects, helping to reduce body pain. We also want our customers to feel independent, especially in their own homes. With the Grappler by your side, you do not have to wait for friends or family members to grab items off of a high shelf or to get fallen objects in hard-to-reach places. You will be able to use the Grappler extension reach tool on your own without having to depend on other people.

Using the Grappler during a community clean event

The Grappler is perfect for picking up trash at a community event. With our tool, you will not be one of the volunteers, with gloves on, bending down to pick up disgusting discarded items — sticky soda cans, old smelly potato chip bags, and small pieces of litter like straws. Instead, you will be the one quickly and efficiently picking up trash using your lightweight, aluminum Grappler pick-up tool—no dirty hands while and after doing dirty work. Other participants will be amazed at how fast and effortlessly you will be able to clean your assigned area and help with theirs. One user wrote:

“I recently acquired one of your 33- inch long Grapplers and The Handler for use around my house. This last weekend our church had a day of service where we went and cleaned up a nearby park. I brought them both along because I knew they would help me greatly.

What I did not expect was the reaction from all of the other people doing service with me. While everyone was bending over, picking up pieces of paper, used water bottles, leftover paintball gun parts, etc. I was quickly and easily reaching both large and small items (sometimes extremely small!) with ease and saving my back in the process.” – Kelly S., Sparks Nevada

You see, the Grappler is perfect for community clean-up projects. We are sure many of the volunteers went home and purchased a Grappler after seeing Kelly use her pick-up tool.

Another one of our customers used the Grappler to pick up thousands of beer cans, bottles, and other debris left around the Salt River Park in Mesa, Arizona.

“By the end of this adventure, I was completely sold on the tool, and in spite of buying several other cheaper and lighter products over the years, I have found the Grappler to be durable and well suited for picking up not only debris, but also firewood pieces weighing up to twenty pounds, and small items that were out of reach and even major litter such as discarded car tires filled with sand and floating hazards such as large pieces of Styrofoam, gas cans, and construction materials thrown away by litterers in four states.”  – Julie J.

Julie still uses her Grappler almost every day and notes that it’s still very durable and in great shape. So as you can see, we have the best customers on the planet. We love reading the reviews and learning how our tools are helping people every day! We know we make a fantastic product that has been tested and proven to last long, but it is the testimonials from our customers that validate that results. Our customers believe in our tool so much that many buy more than one to keep for themselves or give to a family member or friend. Now that’s a product you can trust! You don’t have to take our word for it; we have tons of customer reviews on our website and Facebook page. Or you can try our tool first hand for yourself and see how quick and easy reaching and retrieving objects with the Grappler can be!

How a Pick Up Tool Can Help Those with Limited Mobility

handicap pick up tools

A pick up tool works like an extension of the arm by allowing individuals to reach things they might not normally be able to reach. With a squeeze of the “trigger,” individuals can grab onto things as large as a bottle of soda or as small as a toothpick. The pick up tool (commonly used for volunteer litter clean up crews) can retrieve things from high places or from the ground and make doing household chores and duties much easier for those with limited mobility.

In the Kitchen

The reach tool can be extremely beneficial in the kitchen, because individuals can use it to retrieve things from top shelves without having to use a ladder or step stool. Not only does it increase safety, but it prevents individuals from having to rely on others to get a glass or dish from the top shelf. With the pick up tool, those with limited mobility can obtain ingredients, dishes, and other items from top shelves, as long as they can squeeze the trigger on the reach tool.

In the Garden or Yard

Gardening or outdoor time shouldn’t be limited for those who have limited mobility simply because they can’t do all the things they once could. The pick up tool can help them take down and replace bird feeders and hanging garden ornaments, and it can even let them pick up garbage from the ground in their yard. Because the reach tool is so precise, individuals can pick flowers with it! It can make gardening fun again for those who are confined to a wheel chair, or those who can’t bend or climb anymore.

At the Store

Pick up tools can even be useful on the go. Individuals with limited mobility or those confined to a wheel chair or power scooter can use the reach tool even during their grocery shopping. With the pick up tool, they can get items from higher shelves that they might not normally be able to reach, all without having to ask for assistance. It is even possible to use it to place smaller items on the conveyor belt at the checkout line. It’s a great benefit for those who don’t like to ask for help but usually must.

Other Benefits of a Pick Up Tool

There are other ways in which a reach tool can be beneficial for individuals with limited mobility. It can be used at the office to reach things that are otherwise inaccessible, and it can be used in volunteering situations to help reach items or pick up items that the individual otherwise wouldn’t be able to reach. The largest benefit of the pick up tool is the independence it returns to individuals that have limited mobility. With its use, they don’t have to rely on others to perform tasks that they couldn’t otherwise do themselves.

Grappler litter without straining your back

The Grappler is the most dependable trash pick up tool on the market today. This revolutionary and simplistic design matches durable rust proof aluminium with a versatile “hand” that picks up almost all kinds of litter without ever having to bend over.

HOW DOES THE GRAPPLER REMOVE LITTER?

The unique design of the Grappler allows for objects to be picked up from the sides, like many other trash pick-up devices, but also from underneath while clamping onto the top. The flat fingers of the Grappler allows users to get into tighter spaces with greater ease such as inside bushes, or around storm drain tunnels.

The squeezing pressure for the Grappler is more than twice that of some competitors with 17 pounds of pressure. The mouth at the end of the shaft is also an inch to two and half inches larger than the competition at 5.12”. This increased squeeze pressure coupled with the larger mouth allows users to pick up litter as large as two liter coke bottles that are half full. Glass bottles, aluminum cans, animal carcasses, and animal feces are held firmly in place until placed in a trash bag.  It is the strongest pickup tool on the market.

WHAT LENGTHS DOES THE GRAPPLER COME IN?

Grapplers also come in a variety of lengths.  33” and 40” are the most popular lengths, but to reach trash that has fallen into a stream or river, or litter that has blown into trees is no longer a problem with a 48”, 72” or 96” Grappler that’s just as easy to use as the shorter ones.

For colder climates the Grappler also comes in a full aluminium body design with no plastic parts. So, it won’t break or chip if you drop it on the ground.  This product is proudly made in America.

The demand keeps rising for Grappler. Maid in California, Haines and Cross, and several state Department of Transportation divisions have made this tool the number one most recommended trash pick up tool.

Comments for the Grappler have been overwhelmingly positive on e-commerce sites that offer this unique tool.

“I’m a semi-retired seasonal assistant ranger for the Oregon State Parks & Recreation Department and I do a lot of grounds keeping as my job. After using these Grapplers for a whole season I am convinced that they are the more superior tool of this type,” says Dan.  Another user wrote “Best product available as a ‘pick-up’ tool. Good material, well constructed & easy to use.”

No one should have to strain cleaning up litter.  Grappler trash into the bin.
