Here at Grapplers Inc., we are proud of the number of accomplishments we have achieved with the only American-made trash pickup tool on the market. One day several years ago, we had an interesting request from a paper company in Alabama. They had a giant machine that they would feed a giant roll of paper into, but it was extremely difficult to reach the ends of the paper and feed it into the machine. So they called us and asked if we could make a custom long-reach Grappler just for them.
After consulting with this company to understand exactly what was needed, we set out to produce the world’s longest grabber tool. A whopping 16 feet long! The photo above shows Jay Theissens holding the Grappler in order to give you the proper scale to understand how long this Grappler really is! It is worth emphasizing that this Grappler is meant to be used only for moving items directly up or down. Because of its length, it is impossible to pick up anything with one hand in a horizontal position at any angle.
Archimedes said, “If I had a lever long enough, I could move the earth.” While this is not that lever, it is certainly a long device. It was made for one purpose only and for one customer only. And they were so happy with the first one that they ordered 4 more!
We do offer a number of other standard-length pick-up tools that are longer than any of our competition. Not only are they longer, but they are also much stronger and have greater grabbing and reaching capabilities. These options range from 2-8 feet long and can be used in a variety of situations. The most popular option is the 33-inch long Grappler, used by the vast majority of individuals who need a litter pick-up tool to remove trash along highways, in yards, at schools, etc.
More about Grapplers
Grapplers of various sizes are used in alternative ways as their length and strength make it easier for people to pick up something while riding along in a tractor or utility truck. Some crews even use them to reach deep down into the pit of toilets at campgrounds to retrieve trash. Others can be used to reach down wells or pipes to dislodge items. Other Grapplers have been used by bomb squads to add a little extra distance when picking up hazardous explosives or chemical materials.
There are many uses for Grapplers. It’s a device that can pick up both a toothpick and a 2-liter bottle full of liquid. Grapplers are the only trash pickup tool on the market today that can boast such a claim.
