Do you feel like your home is constantly cluttered? If yes, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Many people find themselves struggling with clutter in their home on a daily basis. Thankfully, there are steps you can take to declutter your home and keep it organized. Keep scrolling to learn our favorite five ways to declutter your home and keep it tidy!

1. Start with one small area at a time

It may seem like you have a lot of clutter to get rid of, but the key is to take it one step at a time! Start by picking out one small area in your home and tackle it first before moving on to another area.  This will help you feel more accomplished and less overwhelmed.

Make a list of the areas in your home that you would like to organize in order of priority and break it down into smaller tasks. This will help keep you motivated as you cross smaller items off your list until you complete your larger organizational goals!

2. Create three piles – keep, donate, or toss

Once you have chosen an area to start with, it’s time to create piles of belongings. Make a pile for things that you want to keep, one for items that can be donated, and another for anything that needs to be thrown away. This will help make sorting through your belongings easier than trying to figure out what to do with each item right away!

3. Be ruthless when sorting through your belongings

Be ruthless when sorting through your belongings, especially if you’re the type of person who has a hard time letting go of things.  Don’t be afraid to get rid of personal items, clothes that don’t fit anymore, etc. A good rule is: if you haven’t missed or used it in a year, it is no longer necessary for you to hold onto it.

It’s also important to give yourself a time limit for this task so you’re not spending all day sorting through old stuff! Remember: being ruthless does not mean throwing away everything – it just means thinking critically about what stays and what goes.

4. Get rid of anything you don’t use or need

This might seem like an obvious one, but it’s worth mentioning! If you haven’t used or worn something in months (or years), then chances are you probably won’t miss it when it’s gone.

It may be tempting to keep old clothes that don’t fit anymore “just in case,” but there is no point holding onto things that don’t serve a purpose anymore. The same can be said for old electronics like phones, computers, and televisions – if it doesn’t work or isn’t being used, there is no reason to keep it around.

For items that are in good condition, there are plenty of ways you can sell or donate. Your local Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Ebay are good places to start! The potential to earn a little cash while you declutter your home will keep you motivated to finish your projects!

5. Put things away in their designated place so they don’t end up back in clutter territory

This is arguably the most important tip of them all! If you want to keep your home organized and clutter-free, it’s crucial that you put things away in their designated place. Storage bins, shelves, and baskets with labels are useful for grouping items together so you can find your possessions when you need them! This will help prevent messes from happening in the first place and make cleaning up a whole lot easier!

It doesn’t have to end there!

You can also declutter your life by getting rid of less obvious things that don’t serve you anymore, such as old friendships or jobs that aren’t fulfilling. If a friend or coworker makes you feel like crap then it’s probably time to let them go!  This might seem harsh but sometimes tough reminders are needed to make big changes in your life.

Now that you have a plan of attack, it’s time to get started on this new lifestyle. Start with one small area at a time and work your way around the house until everything is tidy! Remember, be ruthless when sorting through your belongings so don’t feel bad about tossing anything you won’t use or need in the future. Put things away in their designated place so they don’t end up back in clutter territory. Need help getting to those hard-to-reach areas? Use our Grappler to help! Shop HERE. Happy Decluttering!
