America’s Top Ten Most Commonly Thrown Away Items

commonly thrown away items

Did you know that the average American throws away around 4.5 pounds of trash every day? And that’s just the average! That number is probably even higher for people who live in cities. The sad truth is that a lot of this trash ends up littering our roadsides, clogging our waterways, and polluting our oceans.

In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at America’s top ten most commonly thrown away items. Hopefully this information will help us all become more aware of the litter problem in our country, and inspire us to do something about it!

How much garbage does the United States produce?

The United States generates a lot of garbage. In fact, we generate more than any other country in the world! We produce about 250 million tons of trash every year. That’s enough to fill up nearly 900,000 garbage trucks! And if we lined up all those garbage trucks end to end, they would stretch from New York City all the way to Los Angeles!

So what exactly is all this garbage? Well, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), about 35% of it is paper and cardboard. Another 12% is yard waste, like leaves and grass clippings. And another 11% is food scraps. The rest is made up of things like plastics, metals, glass, and textiles.

What happens to trash when not properly disposed of?

Sadly, a lot of this trash ends up littering our roadsides, clogging our waterways, and polluting our oceans. In fact, it’s estimated that there are more than five trillion pieces of plastic litter in the world’s oceans! That’s enough to fill up more than 500 shipping containers!

What items are thrown away the most?

So what are the most commonly thrown away items in the United States? While the items might vary from city to city depending on where you live and your lifestyle, you’ll likely find similar items in your own trash bin.

Here’s a list of the top ten items, according to the EPA:

– Paper and cardboard

– Yard waste

– Food scraps

– Plastics

– Metals

– Glass

– Textiles

– Animal waste

– Hazardous waste

– Electronic waste

Reduce your personal waste

So what can we do to reduce our personal household waste? Here are a few suggestions:

– Recycle paper, cardboard, glass, and metal.

– Compost food scraps and yard waste.

– Reduce your use of plastic bags, straws, and other disposable items.

– Repair or donate broken electronics instead of throwing them away.

– Properly dispose of hazardous materials like paint and batteries.

By following these simple tips, we can all help reduce the litter problem in our country! Let’s all do our part to keep America clean! Hopefully this information will help us all become more aware of the litter problem in our country, and inspire us to do something about it! Remember, every little bit helps! Together, we can make a difference!

A Trash Grabber to Make Life Better

A Trash Grabber to Make Life Better
After a long day of work, an operation, or simply years of a life well lived, the last thing you need is pain while you pick up your trash. A trash grabber can make all the difference between discomfort and ease when it comes to cleaning your home, your yard or even your place of work. Why stoop and risk injury and pain when you can easily implement a trash picker tool into your daily life and maintain your health?

Simple, Easy Reaching
When you feel strain while reaching for an object, you know you need to stop before you injure yourself. The garbage, however, isn’t going to pick itself up. With a trash grabber, you can easily avoid the strain and potential injury as you clean up and carry your garbage with ease. Whether your garbage is behind a large object that you cannot or should not move, or it is on the ground out of your reach, you can access it simply with your trash tool. It extends your arm and allows you to access anything you need in a matter of seconds.

No Fuss, no Mess
Clearing your yard of waste or garbage is a messy, cumbersome chore. You can easily avoid all of this mess and keep your hands tidy when you utilize a trash grabber during the whole process. Simply reach out with the tool and lift what you need, then discard it without ever even touching it with your fingers. A trash picker is even simpler than a litter stick because you do not have to remove the trash yourself after you pick it up. Save yourself time and effort and make chores a breeze with your new tool.

Volunteer Work
Give your time and energy to a worthy cause without hurting your legs or back by implementing your trash grabber in your volunteer work. Take it with you to the park, the stream or wherever you are cleaning up litter, and make the task much easier and effective. Buy several tools as a group and use them for years to come while you keep your neighborhood and community clean.

Life is too short to spend so much time picking up trash, let alone recovering from an injury as a result of stooping. Use a grabber tool to make your life easier, and save time to enjoy more of the things you love to do. Provide loved ones with the same gift so you can spend more time together as well.

The Ultimate Trash Grabber: The Grappler

Trash grabbers are tools that people use to pick up trash and refuse around their home, parks, streambeds, rivers and along highways. They come in handy because it makes it possible for people not to have to bend down and pick up items of debris and trash that people have carelessly tossed away. There are a variety of trash grabbers on the market today that can be used for their stated purpose, but we feel there is only one that meets the greatest majority of needs, and is the strongest, longest lasting trash grabber on the market today: The Grappler.

The Grappler trash grabber is made in Sparks Nevada making it the only American-made product of its kind available anywhere. All others are made in China so purchasing a Grappler helps keep money in America and people employed here. Once you see the capability of the Grappler, you’ll recognize that this is by far the best made and well-designed tool of its kind. We have had numerous people send us letters and emails giving us testimonials regarding this product. A recent one from Bill said this, “this is a quote from Bill”.

TRASH-GRABBERSThere are many more available on our website and a testimonial section.

But let’s get back to the subject of trash grabbers. Every day one of our faithful users named Kelly walks through the park picking up all sorts of trash the people and left behind. Most of it is just done by kids who aren’t really thinking, leaving a water bottle here or there, or maybe after they’ve had a party or picnic in the park. By far and away the majority of people use the park responsibly and clean up after themselves, but there are a few who don’t respect property or rights and carelessly toss trash anywhere they please. Jerry goes through the park walking his dog and taking a plastic trash bag or two with him. Every day, it is easy to pick up at least one whole bag of trash.

While Kelly was picking up something one day a person commented, “Hey, why are you doing that? We have park people to do that.” Kelly replied, “Yes we do have are people that come by and pick up the trash from the trash bins, but is it their responsibility to pick up every piece of trash in the park? Don’t we as regular American citizens have a responsibility to clean up after ourselves and maybe even our neighbors?” That’s probably a good philosophy. Several people have also commented to Kelly that they really appreciated what he was doing and fact, some have taken up the cause themselves and have been seen picking up after others also. It’s never too late to be a good example.

The selection of trash grabbers is fairly large from the kind that have a pair of suction cups on the end of a pair of tongs, one’s styled like pinchers, and then the Grappler who has a very wide open design that can fit an entire 2 Liter bottle full of liquid clear down to something as small as a toothpick in it’s jaws. In fact, as mentioned by our person in the testimonial above, the hardest thing he had to pick up with a plastic straw wrappers and he felt that the Grappler was the only thing that would do the job.

The biggest complaint that most people have regarding trash grabbers is that they wear out or easily break. We had one person comment that they had tried just about every kind of version of trash grabber on the market and had given up on finding anything that would last very long. Once he found the Grappler, he snapped one up and sent us a glowing testimonial about how well it worked and how long it lasted.

“I have spent quite a few hours using this product. I have also used others from other manufacturers. My opinion is that your product is one of the finest and best working that exists on the market. It has helped me in my never-ending battle with [picking up] the drink box sippy straw.

Thanks again,
Kevin K. | Park Manager
Lackawanna State Park Complex”

Another common usage for our trash grabber are highway departments and adopt-a-highway programs. We sell dozens at the time to these groups and they all appreciate how well it helps them pick up the junk along the highway. It’s astonishing what they find too! They have found an enormous array of bottles, cups, diapers, diamond rings, $20 bills, straws, and things we really can’t mention here. In fact, you’ll find an article on our website about a man who has decided to make a highway near his home the, “Cleanest Highway in America.” He uses our trash grabber more than any person we have ever known. We once asked him about his experience and he replied, “I really didn’t want to use the Grappler because I had tried other products before, but they never lasted very long. They always broke or were clumsy and difficult to use. Once I found the Grappler, I was surprised how strong it was, how sturdy it looked and decided to give it a try. I still use it to this day and am very happy because it saves me and my back from having to reach over all the time which is what I used to have to do.”

INDUSTRIAL-TRASH-PICKUP-TOOLSo if you’re looking for the perfect trash grabber for any project you can think of then look no further than the Grappler. We find that most people order at least 2 because then they can have somebody else help them along the way. Large church groups and Boy Scout organizations use the Grappler for a variety of service projects and we love getting letters from them. We also have some very unusual uses for the Grappler that were never intended before. One company specifically hired us to create a special 16 foot long Grappler to serve one purpose: pulling down paper from a massive role high above a printer. We have an article about that here even though it’s not for sale to anyone else.

For those people who work in extreme weather conditions where the plastic handle may break if dropped on concrete in below freezing conditions, we also offer our special Industrial Grade Grappler that is made of all aluminum: no plastic parts whatsoever. The aluminum handle is covered with a rubber cover to make it easier on the hands and prevent wear and tear, but it is a very solid tool that can be used in any condition. It is the ultimate in trash grabbers.

Grapplers, Inc. Announces the Creation of the World’s Longest Grappler

World's Longest GrapplerIn order to provide companies in need of help with longer reaching distances, Grapplers, Inc. has created a special Grappler long reach tool for a paper company in Alabama.

This new extra-long Grappler is 16 feet long, and made especially for one purpose only: pulling down paper off a long roll to attach it to the printer. Extending beyond the height of two grown men put together, the new long reach tool is expected to be used in this operation only and it is not really useful for many other situations because of several factors. It was made for one purpose only and will find very limited use outside of this request from the company (which has since purchased 3 more).

But Grapplers Inc does offer several other longer reach Grapplers that can be very useful for other needs and range from 2’ long all the way to 8’ long. The benefits of an extended Grappler are expected to be numerous. The tool may help prevent injuries and strain on workers by eliminating the need for dangerous ladders or forklifts. Companies are expected to save on costs as a result. The new Grappler is also expected to make storing items in high areas more accessible for the average company, increasing store space and convenience.

Maintenance companies can use a long reach Grappler tool for cleaning out sewer systems, outhouses, pit toilets, drainage pipes and a host of other uses. Garbage truck operators for numerous applications have used the long Grapplers. Bomb squads could use it for picking up dangerous items keeping them farther away from potential chemical and explosive hazards. But please note that the longer the Grappler, the more difficult it is to pick something up. If extending out horizontally or at the wrong angle, it can become impossible for anyone, no matter how strong they are, to pick up anything, so please let the company know what you plan on doing with it and they can help you with your purchase.

The company stresses that this new long reach tool is not the standard trash pick-up tool that it normally sells. Instead, it is uniquely designed for pulling down paper from a large roll and is both difficult to reach as well as far away from the individual using the tool. At 16’ long, the world’s largest Grappler is much too long to use in everyday cleanup operations, but the company assures the public that its regular Grappler is still available to do just that.

People interested in learning more about the new extended Grappler and how and the company’s standard trash pick-up tools may find out more information at https://www.grapplersinc.com.

About the Company:
Grapplers, Inc. is an award-winning company created by Jay and Bonnie Thiessens. The company provides a wide variety of tools to assist both individuals and businesses with everyday living, from specialty hobby accessories to reaching products. Grapplers, Inc. is known for their superior customer service, quality products and helpful, friendly staff.
